Why does Bland Radio sell only one scanner?

We believe the SDS200 is the best base/mobile scanner in its class for monitoring today's complex radio communications. It combines Uniden's True I/Q receiver technology, built-in P25 Phase I and Phase II decoding, a comprehensive USA/Canada radio database and a customizable 3.5-inch color display.

What can you listen to?

Depending on the systems in your area, monitor compatible, unencrypted police and sheriff communications, state highway patrol, fire dispatch, EMS, emergency management, aircraft, railroads, amateur radio, NOAA weather, public works and business radio. Reception depends on location, antenna, system coverage and supported modes. Encrypted communications cannot be decoded.

Why P25 Phase I and Phase II matter

Many public safety agencies have moved from analog to Project 25 digital radio. P25 Phase I uses digital voice on a 12.5 kHz channel. Phase II uses two time slots to carry two voice conversations in the same bandwidth. Older analog-only and Phase I-only scanners may miss compatible Phase II communications. The SDS200 supports both P25 phases out of the box.

True I/Q technology and simulcast

Modern public safety networks sometimes use several towers transmitting the same signal on the same frequencies. These simulcast systems can cause garbled audio and missed transmissions on conventional scanners, even with strong signal strength. The SDS200's True I/Q receiver is designed to improve digital decoding in challenging simulcast conditions. Actual reception varies by location.

Modern scanners can be frustrating to program

Talkgroups, trunked systems, sites, service types and Favorites Lists can be confusing. ZIP-code scanning gets you started, but may include agencies you don't want or overlook the way you prefer to listen. Bland Radio offers personal help.

Optional one-hour Personal Programming & Training — $100

When you buy your SDS200 at Bland Radio, you can choose a hands-on learning session. We'll discuss what YOU want to hear, review known radio systems in YOUR area and explain what is compatible or encrypted. With your input and our guidance, we'll program the scanner for your listening interests, organize Favorites Lists, demonstrate controls, discuss antenna and reception considerations, and answer your questions.

We don't just program it FOR you. We teach you how to USE it! Training is completely optional.

Frequently asked questions

Will it receive my local police or sheriff? That depends on the agency's radio system, encryption, reception and coverage. We'll review known local systems during the optional session.

Can it monitor Missouri State Highway Patrol? The SDS200 supports the P25 technology used by Missouri's MOSWIN network. Actual reception depends on nearby sites, talkgroup activity and encryption.

Can I use it right out of the box? Yes. ZIP-code scanning is a starting point, and free Sentinel software lets you personalize programming.

Is the $99 session required? No. You can buy the scanner alone and program it yourself.

Do I need an outdoor antenna? Not necessarily; it depends on your location and what you want to receive.

Can I stream over my network? Ethernet supports compatible remote control and audio streaming applications; additional software and setup may be required.
